Scholarship Benefits:
The University of Sydney offers the following benefits:
- Successful candidates will be granted a scholarship stipend allowance of $40,000 per year.
- Master’s by Research recipients are eligible for the stipend for a maximum of one year, while PhD recipients can receive it for up to three years, with the potential for a six-month extension.
- The scholarship additionally covers academic course fees and the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) for eligible international applicants who meet the academic performance requirements.
Eligibility Requirements:
To qualify, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:
- They should have received an unconditional offer for full-time enrollment in a PhD program or a Master’s by Research program within the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney, with the intention to transition to a PhD after completing the first annual progress evaluation to a satisfactory standard.

Application Process:
Students are required to submit an admission application. Eligible applicants will be automatically considered for the scholarship, and there is no need to submit a separate application.
Supporting Documents:
Applicants must provide certain supporting paperwork, which includes: documentation pertaining to the scholarship application, English language proficiency test results, academic transcripts, marriage certificate or any relevant documents indicating a name change, and degree certificates.
Admission Requirements:
In order to be qualified, applicants are required to complete the following requirements:
- Applicants must possess at least an Honours degree (First Class or Second Class Upper) or its equivalent in a relevant field.
- Applicants are required to possess an unconditional offer to pursue a full-time doctoral or master’s research program in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sydney. Additionally, they should have the intention to switch to a doctoral program following the first annual progress evaluation.
- International students who are currently outside Australia must have applied for their student visa before commencing their studies.
- As per the University of Sydney (Higher Degree by Research) Rule 2011, students may be required to spend a specific period embedded with the industry partner’s offices, as mutually agreed upon by the supervisor and the industry partner.
Language Requirements
Applicants need to meet the language proficiency criteria as follows:
